Story

The Atomic Volleyball program received $100,000 from the BC Sport Participation Program in 2004-2007 to deliver a community-based six- to eight-week introduction to volleyball program. More than 2,250 children, aged 9-12, and 400 coaches from 21 communities participated in the program. The program, which includes both indoor and beach volleyball, offers young athletes the basic skills needed to begin playing in a league.

The following communities hosted the Atomic Volleyball program: Burnaby, Comox, Coquitlam, Cranbrook, Delta, Kamloops, Kelowna, Langley, Maple Ridge, Nanaimo, North Vancouver, Prince George, Richmond, Sechelt, Surrey, Vancouver, Victoria and White Rock.

The BC Sport Participation Program aims to increase sport participation in community and school-based sports. From 2004-2007 the program gave more than $2 million to 22 sport organizations running programs in 109 communities for close to 85,000 participants and more than 4,600 coaches. The program is funded by the Province of British Columbia and Sport Canada.
