Story

The North Saanich Rod and Gun Club received $10,000 from HostingBC to hold the 2005 National Small Bore Rifle Championships. The event drew 99 athletes, aged 16-55, from nine Canadian provinces, 100 spectators and was supported by 21 volunteers. Organizers say the event solidified the club's position as a training facility for the national team and contributed significantly to increased interest in the shooting sports, particularly among youth.

Support for the event enabled improvements to the hosting facility, including better access for wheelchair athletes; additional targets and stands to help train athletes for national and international competition; and training for five officials who can now serve at high level competitions. There was an estimated $148,500 in revenue added to the local economy, thanks to spending by organizers, competitors, officials and spectators.

Hosting BC provides BC communities with funding to host national and international sport events. The program is supported by the Province of British Columbia.
