Story

The 2005 Commonwealth Games Trials and Senior National Championships received $10,000 from Hosting BC. More than 340 swimmers participated in the event, held to select a team to represent Canada at the 2006 Commonwealth Games. Canadians from nine provinces along with participants from the U.S. competed in front of 3,000 spectators. There were 300 volunteers trained to support the event.

The event improved the hosting capacity of the B.C. swimming community and gave local coaches and swimmers an opportunity to prepare and compete alongside Canada's top athletes. There was an estimated economic impact of $400,000, thanks to spending for lodging, meals and transportation.

Hosting BC provides BC communities with funding to host national and international sport events. The program is supported by the Province of British Columbia.
