The 2006 Canada Cup Fédération International de Natation (FINA) Grand Prix diving competition received $35,000 from Hosting BC. The event attracted 106 athletes from 15 countries including Venezuela, Russia, Brazil and New Zealand. A record 19 Canadian divers competed and audiences numbered more than 750 daily.
Funding for the event enabled purchase of new training and warm-up equipment which can be used by the local Boardworks Diving Club and by all participants at future events. A pool of 80 volunteers was trained and is now able to serve at other competitions. The local economy was strengthened by an estimated $150,000 spent on accommodation, meals, transportation and other services. The event showcased the Saanich Commonwealth Pool and the local area via a full live webcast of the competition.
