Story
The 2007 Spring National Swimming Championships, Pan Am Games and FISU Games Trials received $10,000 from HostingBC. There were 390 swimmers, aged 13-35, coming from Canada, the U.S. and Mexico, as well as from 10 Canadian provinces. Almost 200 volunteers supported the event that drew 650 spectators. A webcast of the event attracted 2,500 viewers.
The event provided national level training and experience for volunteers, officials and coaches. Economic benefit included significant revenue for the host site and for local hotels, restaurants, transportation and other businesses. Organizers say facility improvements made for the Championships make the Saanich Commonwealth Place a likely venue for future major competitions.
