Victoria Hosts 2007 Canadian Interuniversity Sport Cross Country Championships

The 2007 Canadian Interuniversity Sport Cross Country Championships received $7,500 from HostingBC. The premier cross country event in Canada, the competition drew 200 athletes on 20 university teams in seven Canadian provinces. There were 1,500 spectators for the event which was supported by 40 volunteers.

National exposure will help recruit runners to the University of Victoria and the local area. Economic and tourism benefits included approximately 520 hotel room nights booked and revenues from restaurants, shopping and other amenities. Volunteers and staff are now trained in national level event management and can serve at future competitions.

Hosting BC provides BC communities with funding to host national and international sport events. The program is supported by the Province of British Columbia.
