Story

Hosting BC gave $10,000 to help 200 athletes compete in the 2005 Haywood NorAm Canada Cup that was hosted in part by the Sovereign Lake Nordic Club. Athletes, including 25 C. participants, came from North America, Australia and Japan and competed in front of 1,000 spectators during the two-day cross country skiing event.

Approximately 450 volunteers were trained, forming a strong pool of volunteers for future races and race officials received valuable experience. The event also brought economic benefits to the community, such as filling local accommodation during non-peak season and providing business to local suppliers and equipment rental companies. Widening and expansion of both race trails and stadium improved overall ski conditions and will allow the community to hold larger races with more spectators.

Hosting BC provides BC communities with funding to host national and international sport events. The program is supported by the Province of British Columbia.
