Story

The Canadian Series 2005 Freestyle Ski Competition received $10,000 from Hosting BC. The competition was designated by VANOC as a pre-Games test or training event. It drew 72 athletes, aged 13-29, coming from four Canadian provinces and Australia. There were 300 spectators at the event which was supported by almost 40 volunteers.

The event enabled training for both volunteers and officials who will form a resource pool of the 2010 Olympic Winter Games. Supplies and services purchased for the event totalled $10,000 in local spending and the influx of participants, guests and spectators boosted local accommodation, food and entertainment revenues. Extensive media coverage provided excellent marketing exposure for the area.

Hosting BC provides BC communities with funding to host national and international sport events. The program is supported by the Province of British Columbia.
