Vancouver Hosts the Disabled Sailing Event

The 2006 Mobility Cup for Disabled Sailing received $15,000 from Hosting BC. There were 40 athletes from five countries participating in the event, including sailors from seven Canadian provinces. The Cup attracted 1,000 spectators and was supported by 50 volunteers.

The event enabled the repair and upgrade of existing sailboats which will be used for future programs and surplus funds will be used to improve and increase disabled sailing programming in B.C. All contracts for the event were made with local suppliers and there was further economic impact through local spending by participants and spectators.

Hosting BC provides BC communities with funding to host national and international sport events. The program is supported by the Province of British Columbia.
