Story

The Squamish Valley Golf and Country Club received $10,000 from Hosting BC to hold the 2005 Royal Cup Women's National Amateur Championship. There were 119 women competing in the event, coming from Canada, the U.S. and Mexico. The event drew 1,000 spectators and was supported by 135 volunteers.

The large scoreboard used at the event will be used at future competitions and improvements to the course - set out to championship level of play - will benefit local players who can improve their game on the challenging layout. Exposure to the Sea to Sky corridor and the championship course is expected to bring return visitors to golf in and the area, adding to its tourist appeal. Local businesses directly benefitted as most competitors stayed in Squamish for the duration of the week-long tournament.

Hosting BC provides BC communities with funding to host national and international sport events. The program is supported by the Province of British Columbia.
