Story
The 2007 Esso Women's National Hockey Championships received $10,000 from HostingBC. There were 230 athletes, aged 16-42, who came from seven provinces to compete at the Sunwave Centre in front of almost 15,000 spectators. The TV audience was estimated at 150,000.
The event provided opportunities for girls interested in hockey, and Minor Girls Hockey players to witness top level competition. Direct economic benefit included spending by almost 500 fans, participants and guests. Staff and the 225 volunteers were able to upgrade their training to national levels, forming an experienced pool for future events. Also, organizers now have an infrastructure for future televised events.
