ProMOTION Plus's Girls Only Program

Story

The ProMOTION Plus Girls Only program is designed to increase opportunities for girls and women to participate in sport and recreation by providing resources, support, leadership and partnerships to participating communities. With funding of $110,000 from the BC Sport Participation Program from 2004-2007, more than 1,200 girls, aged 13-17, and 18 coaches participated in girls-only programming in 18 BC communities. Many girls and young women have continued to be active after being introduced to sport activities through this program.

THe following communites participated in the ProMOTION Plus Girls Only program: 100 Mile House, Abbotsford, Bella Coola, Burnaby, Courtenay, Cowichan, Esquimalt, Fairfield, Kelwona, Kitimat, Port Moody, Prince George, Prince Rupert, Richmond, Salmon Arm, Sechelt, Vancouver and Victoria.


The BC Sport Participation Program aims to increase sport participation in community and school-based sports. From 2004-2007 the program gave more than $2 million to 22 sport organizations running programs in 109 communities for close to 85,000 participants and more than 4,600 coaches. The program is funded by the Province of British Columbia and Sport Canada.
