Story

PacificSport BC, in partnership with BC School Sports, launched an innovative multi-sport skill development program called XploreSportz, designed to encourage more participation in sports. With $170,000 from the BC Sport Participation Program from 2004-2007, almost 3,000 children, aged 6-12, and 835 coaches from 17 BC communities participated in the program. The program was offered primarily on Professional Development Days and during winter, spring and summer school breaks.

The following communities participated in the XploreSportz program: Abbotsford, Chilliwack, Kamloops, Kelowna, Langley, Maple Ridge, Mission, Nanaimo, Parksville, Penticton, Port Alberni, Port Hardy, Prince George, Tofino, Ucluelet, Vernon and Whistler.

The BC Sport Participation Program aims to increase sport participation in community and school-based sports. From 2004-2007 the program gave more than $2 million to 22 sport organizations running programs in 109 communities for close to 85,000 participants and more than 4,600 coaches. The program is funded by the Province of British Columbia and Sport Canada.
