Oceanside Celebrates Spirit of BC Week 2008

Qualicum Beach celebrated Spirit of BC Week 2008 with numerous events, including a flag raising in Parksville that drew 70 people, including Paralympian Michelle Stilwell. At Oceanside Arena, 145 people took part in a Spirit skate. Other activities included a Spirit sing a long, a Spirit swim, a lawn bowling open house and a Parksville Chamber of Commerce presentation on "A love story between Oceanside and the Olympics."

The many events drew a total of 2,600 people to Parksville and Qualicum Beach, two of the more than 100 communities celebrating Spirit of BC Week 2008.

Spirit of BC Week is an annual province-wide celebration of British Columbia and its unique communities. Held each February, it is a week of over 300 events and activities showcasing local programs and services that strengthen community arts, literacy, sport, recreation and volunteerism. The celebration is supported by the Province of British Columbia.
