Story

A grant of $2,500 from Explorations allowed Maywood Community School to host an arts camp for 17 children in Grades 4-7. Students experimented with various materials, such as pastels, paint, and collage and also created a wall mural for the front of the school. Each day started with warm-up games and some drawing sessions took place outdoors. Students also went on a field trip to the Vancouver Art Gallery. Many participants came from families unable to afford art classes - this camp was their first experience of art instruction.

Explorations provided students in kindergarten to Grade 7 with opportunities to explore arts, sport and recreation in summer camp settings. The program, which ran from 2005-2008, served students who were otherwise unable to attend summer camps due to location, local resources or financial limitations. Explorations was supported by the Province of British Columbia.
