Story

The 2005 Pacific Rim International Para-Dressage Competition and Canadian National Championships received $15,000 from Hosting BC. The sport is practiced by equestrians with disabilities. The event attracted 34 athletes from eight countries, including Bermuda, Argentina and China and from BC and Ontario. There were 250 spectators for the event which was supported by 60 volunteers.

Surplus funds from the event will be used to benefit developing riders and therapeutic riding volunteers are now trained to international standards. The event included classification and judging clinics, yielding one internationally qualified para judge and one classifier. Economic benefits included increased local spending on accommodation, meals and other services.

Hosting BC provides BC communities with funding to host national and international sport events. The program is supported by the Province of British Columbia.
