Story
The Kimberley Arts Council hosted the 2005 Kimberley Arts Festival, a three-day gathering of visual and performing artists to showcase the region’s artistic talents. The event included a juried art exhibition, a youth and family festival, and a variety of artisans demonstrating and selling their wares. The festival, funded by a $13,750-grant from Innovations, also offered a series of workshops for artists and the public to learn new artistic skills. The Kimberley Youth Exhibit displayed 160 pieces of youth art, and an additional 102 pieces of emerging art were juried.
Building on the unprecedented success of the 2005 Festival, the Kimberley Arts Council held Arts on the Edge 2006, the second annual Kimberley Arts Festival, thanks to $5,000I from Innovations. Participation in the festival exceeded expectations, once again, with over 440 people in attendance, 106 volunteers, 78 artists and guests at the artists’ reception, and 92 artworks for the juried art exhibition. An increase of established artists also took part in providing a higher quality of artistic product than the previous year.
