Story

Two events comprising the 2006 Honda ProAm Snowboard Tour were supported with a total of $20,000 from Hosting BC. There were 120 participants aged 15-35 from Canada, the U.S. and Australia who competed in front of 3,000 spectators at events held at Big White Ski Resort near Kelowna.

The event helped to identify and provide training opportunities for potential Olympic athletes not currently on the Canada National team and also raised public awareness about the 2010 Olympic Winter Games. The events offered training and recruiting opportunities for the more than 100 volunteers and officials involved, who are now qualified to serve in future competitions. The estimated direct economic benefit to the community was upwards of $100,000 for the two events and the local area earned significantly increased profile through national media coverage.
