Sport Kelowna was honoured with the inaugural Sport Tourism Community Legacy Award at the 7th Annual British Columbia Tourism Awards in February 2006. Sponsored by 2010 Legacies Now, the award recognizes a community that has successfully launched a sport tourism development plan and demonstrated how their community maximizes benefits and lasting legacies of sport tourism. Founded in 2003 as a community-based partnership between the City of Kelowna and Tourism Kelowna, Sport Kelowna was developed to focus specifically on event sales and development.
