Kamloops Measures Up in Accessibility

Kamloops received $25,000 from Measuring Up to hire a project coordinator and hold a public forum. Four priorities were identified and presented to City Council: improvements to public transit schedules, service delivery, and safety; better community understanding of people with disabilities; more knowledge, information, and access to local products and services; and better communication on inclusion and accessibility issues. The project team also recommended creating a new position to oversee implementation of these improvements.

Measuring Up helps communities assess and improve how accessible and inclusive they are for people with disabilities, seniors and others with similar needs. The program includes a fund, established by the Province of British Columbia, which offers grants to communities to complete accessibility-related projects.
