Story
In 2007, with Explorations funding of $10,000 the Gulf Islands School District offered an arts camp and a sport and recreation camp for 65 children, aged 6-12. Fulford Elementary Community Nature School hosted the camps which involved students from six schools in Salt Spring Island, Duncan, and summer visitors to the Island.
Sports activities included Frisbee, croquet, orienteering, beach games, and hikes as well as a field trip to a vegetable farm to dig and harvest. The SportFit program was also incorporated into the camp. A local artist instructed children in outdoor sketching and other activities included photography, graffiti art, murals, and percussion workshops. The camps ended with an exhibit and demonstration for families.
