Fort St. John Measures Up in Accessibility

Fort St. John received $20,000 from Measuring Up. Funds were used to host an awareness-raising "Wheels Event" to introduce community leaders to issues facing wheelchair users. In addition, automatic door openers were installed at the North Peace Cultural Centre and plans are underway for theatre sound system improvements to assist hearing impaired patrons.

Measuring Up helps communities assess and improve how accessible and inclusive they are for people with disabilities, seniors and others with similar needs. The program includes a fund, established by the Province of British Columbia, which offers grants to communities to complete accessibility-related projects.
