Cranbrook Evaluates Local Arts and Culture Sector

The Cranbrook and District Arts Council, together with the City of Cranbrook and other key players, are working on a cultural mapping of the local area thanks to $6,000 from Creative Communities. The goal is to conduct an inventory of cultural activities and a profile of Cranbrook's arts and heritage sectors. The mapping process is under way and will measure the community’s cultural assets and successes. Also planned is a facilities needs snapshot, and the creation of a vision statement, strategies and actions – all to be incorporated into a comprehensive cultural plan.

Creative Communities assists local governments to take stock of their cultural assets and identify strengths and challenges in their local arts and cultural sector. The program also guides governments through community consultations to determine how and where to expand local arts and cultural programs and projects. The program is supported by the Province of British Columbia.
