Courtenay Measures Up in Accessibility

Story

Courtenay received $20,000 from Measuring Up to hire a project coordinator and conduct public workshops, including a focus group at a local nursing centre, to raise awareness and determine priorities. The community is developing a resource manual as well as information sheets on inclusivity and accessibility for the public, businesses and tourism industry. Courtenay will also work in partnership with Comox Valley Regional District member municipalities to implement recommendations made following a regional assessment.

Measuring Up helps communities assess and improve how accessible and inclusive they are for people with disabilities, seniors and others with similar needs. The program includes a fund, established by the Province of British Columbia, which offers grants to communities to complete accessibility-related projects.
