From the BMX World Championships in Victoria, to the Roots and Blues Festival in Salmon Arm, to the Granville Island Turkey Trot in Vancouver, 2010 Legacies Now is helping event organizers throughout British Columbia recruit and connect with volunteers.
In 2005, we developed VolWeb.ca™, an online tool to encourage volunteerism and increase access to volunteer opportunities for British Columbians. In just five short years, more than 1,900 event organizations and 10,000 volunteers have registered with VolWeb.ca.
Event organizations of all types can register with VolWeb.ca, and people looking for short-term volunteer opportunities can search the online database of events. VolWeb.ca then matches the needs of the events with interested volunteers.
"I've had great success recruiting volunteers through VolWeb.ca," said Alison Liebel, who helped organize the Granville Island Turkey Trot. "It's easy to set up and post opportunities, it gives volunteers a flavour of the event, and it also allows me to get a sense of the skills and abilities of the individuals."
VolWeb.ca provides communities with the tools they need to develop a network of experienced and enthusiastic volunteers who can contribute to the success of local events, creating a legacy of volunteerism that will continue well into the future.
