Story
The 2006 National Junior Olympic Championships for Whitewater Slalom received $7,500 from Hosting BC. The canoe and kayak race drew 98 athletes, ranging in age from 10 to over 40, who came from China, Australia, the U.S. and Canada. They competed in front of 350 spectators.
The event enabled the training of 15 new volunteer judges, among the 75 volunteers trained for the Championships. Funding for the event has helped 10 Chilliwack area instructors to participate in national certification training. Other direct benefits include upgrades to the timing system and higher revenues for local businesses during race week
