Story
The 2007 PING Canadian Colleges' Athletic Association/ACSC Golf Open Championships received $9,000 from Hosting BC. The event attracted 86 athletes, aged 18-40, who came from five Canadian provinces. Thirty volunteers supported the event.
Organizers said the event increased the profile of collegiate golf in Canada, raised awareness of the Selkirk College Athletic program, and allowed youth golfers to observe the sport at a high level. Direct economic benefit included additional revenue for local accommodation, restaurant and retail industries. Volunteers and officials were able to upgrade their skills, forming a pool of experienced volunteers for future events. Surplus finds will be directed to sport development.
