Campbell River Hosts Explorations Summer Camps

Campbell River used $5,000 in Explorations funding to offer two sport and recreation camps for 45 children, aged 10 to 13, in the summer of 2005. The week-long Summer Adventure Camp was open to children who, due to financial reasons, would normally be unable to take advantage of summer programs. The camp offered the opportunity to take part in local sports, such as swimming and tennis, and in activities away from Campbell River, such as spelunking at Gold River. Other activities included bowling, mini-golf, swimming, beach volleyball, and a wrap-up mini-Olympics.

Explorations provided students in kindergarten to Grade 7 with opportunities to explore arts, sport and recreation in summer camp settings. The program, which ran from 2005-2008, served students who were otherwise unable to attend summer camps due to location, local resources or financial limitations. Explorations was supported by the Province of British Columbia.
