Story
The 2005 Pacific Athletics World Cup received $35,000 from Hosting BC. The track and field competition drew 200 athletes, aged 10-30, from 19 countries, including Chad, Congo, Liberia, Philippines and Zimbabwe. They competed in front of 4,000 spectators.
Economic impact included travel and accommodation spending for athletes, coaches, officials and guests as well as almost $300,000 spent by meet organizers to buy local supplies and services. Diverse parts of the community were brought together at organizational and sponsorships levels and can use this experience to execute major international competitions prior to and including the 2010 Olympic Winter Games.
