The 2006 Canada Cup Wheelchair Rugby Tournament received $20,000 from Hosting BC. The event drew 84 athletes from eight countries, including Japan, Sweden and New Zealand who competed in front of 750 spectators.
The event has provided a Legacy Fund which will support a Performance Enhancement Program for the provincial wheelchair rugby team. Officials were trained and upgraded for the event, increasing the local and national pool of officials and classifiers. There were 100 volunteers trained with technical expertise in wheelchair sport, building capacity for future events. Increased economic activity was generated by event supplies and services being accessed locally and by visitor spending.
