Barriere Measures Up in Accessibility

Story

Barriere received $15,000 from Measuring Up and used the funds to hire two coordinators to conduct a community assessment and to fund a public community garden that connects to the seniors' centre. Volunteers helped construct raised garden beds that can be used by people with disabilities. In addition, the path to the garden from the centre was made more accessible for both wheelchair users and walkers, and benches were provided.

Measuring Up helps communities assess and improve how accessible and inclusive they are for people with disabilities, seniors and others with similar needs. The program includes a fund, established by the Province of British Columbia, which offers grants to communities to complete accessibility-related projects.
